Birthday-palooza!
We have been studying the relationship between mixed numbers and improper fractions. And, this week, each student calculated his or her age as a mixed number and then as an improper fraction. Finally, each student plotted his or her age on the giant number line outside our classroom.
Putting mixed numbers and improper fractions in their correct place on the number line is an important skill in 4th grade math. Using our birthdays made it a lot more fun!
